Carl Laughner

Dr. Carl Laughner (1917-2009), came to Slippery Rock on the G.I. Bill after serving in World War II. He was hired as an assistant professor of English and Speech in 1955, later becoming the Director of Alumni Affairs. 

Laughner recollects when all classes were held in Old Main. He talks about coaching the debate team, teaching during the Korean War, and hitchhiking to classes from Pittsburgh as a student. Carl and his wife Norma, who also taught at Slippery Rock, established the Carl and Norma Laughner Scholarship.
