When you are searching for materials in a library or government database, understanding how it is organized can be of great benefit to your search. Essentially, periodicals (i.e. Journals), articles within those periodicals, and other materials are assigned subject headings or keywords.
The primary controlled vocabulary for our library catalog are the Library of Congress headings.
Another set of subject headings are MeSH terms, short for Medical Subject Headings. These are used for articles from PubMed.
For more information about effectively using Subject Headings to search, visit the "Using Library Subject Headings" page in the Library Research Tips guide.
Here are some subject headings to try in an advanced library discovery search. It is recommended that you combine an appropriate subject heading with regular keywords you are looking for.
Note: Inspiration for Health Communication subject headings was taken from the ACRL/EBSS's Library Resources for Communication Studies guide, which may be accessed here: https://acrl.libguides.com/ebss/lrcs/health_communication.
