The Scholarship of Teaching & Learning (SOTL)

What is SoTL?

As a teaching university, one of the most practical types of research you can engage in at Slippery Rock University is the scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL). SoTL is an emerging area of scholarship in higher-education that is based around the relationship between what is being taught and how it is being learned. This differs from other forms of scholarship in that the focus of SoTL is on discovering, assessing and disseminating best practices for teaching and learning about your field of study, rather than working to make breakthroughs in a particular field of study.
