Library Orientation Guide: Circulation and Interlibrary Loan

This guide provides an overview of Bailey Library, its layout, services, and how to use them.

Your Library Card

Your SRU One-Card functions as your library card.  It is used to check out books, borrow laptops or other equipment within the library, and to access electronic or online resources from the comfort of your apartment, home, or residence hall.

Pay particular attention to your library barcode: the sixteen digit number below your name.  You may need this number to access on-line resources while off campus.

Three renewals are available for most items. Holds are available for items that are currently checked out.  Ask in-person at the circulation desk, call (724) 738-2637, or request renewal online using the library catalog.  (You will need your library barcode to request a hold or renewal online.)  Interlibrary loan lengths will vary according to the requirements of the lending institution.

Circulation Desk

Bailey Library Circulation Desk

Bailey Library's Circulation Desk is located to the left of the main entrance as you enter the library.  Materials from the library's Main Collection, Government Documents, Instructional Materials Center, and Reading Room can be checked out or returned there.

The Circulation Desk is also where you may pick up items you have placed on hold, or print materials you may have requested via Interlibrary Loan.  Additionally, the Circulation Desk is where Course Reserves are located, should your professor place books on reserve there.

Workers at the Circulation Desk may retrieve Bound Journals or Government Documents from the library basement for you: simply present information you may have from the catalog, such as the title and volume of the bound journal, or the title or call number of the government document.

Lastly, as the main service point at the entrance to the library, Circulation Desk workers should be able to point you in the right direction if you're looking for another service point or resource in the library, but aren't quite sure where to look.

The Circulation Desk can be reached via phone: (724) 738-2637.

Interlibrary Loan

We can usually borrow items we do not own from other libraries.  You may make requests using E-ZBorrow and ILLiad.

E-Z Borrow is used to request books from neighboring institutions.  Your Patron ID is your library barcode, no spaces.

ILLiad is used to request articles from journals the library does not subscribe to, books that are unavailable on EZ-Borrow, microforms, and other documents.  Log in using your SRU e-mail and password.  If this is your first time using ILLiad, you will have to fill out some contact information.

Note: ILLiad is only available to SRU students and faculty.

Whether you request material via E-Z Borrow or ILLiad, you will receive an e-mail when the item is available for pick-up from the Circulation Desk.
